After you are all moved into your new home, there is always still much work to be done. Unpacking and organizing can be very overwhelming. Then on top of that, you still need to clean your new home.
Here is an easy checklist to help you get your new home looking fresh and clean.
1. Remove Nails from Walls
The previous owner of the home might have left behind old nails and other blemishes to your walls.
Remove the nail from the wall using the backside of a hammer. Afterward, fill the hole with spackling or wall joint compound. Allow the area to dry, then sand lightly. Then you can paint over the fresh new wall.
2. Ceiling Fans and Light Fixtures
You should clean any light fixtures in your new home. Ceiling fans and other light fixtures can get very dusty and dirty.
Use a dusting cleaning product to remove the dust and be sure to disinfect as well!
3. Clean Door Knobs and Outlets
Be sure to get down to the smaller parts of your new home. Door knobs and electrical outlets can carry germs and become stained from use over time.
You can disinfect the door knobs using an everyday cleaning product.
To clean an electrical outlet, you can use a slightly damp rag to clean around the port. If the outlet is severely dirty, you can always get a replacement from the nearest hardware store.
4. Walls, Ceilings, and Baseboards
The walls, ceilings, and baseboards are probably dirty and stained from the previous owner of the home or from all the commotion of moving in. Whichever the case, they need to be cleaned.
Use soap and a sponge to scrub off any dirt stains or dust from these areas.
If the stain is that severe, use paint to cover up the blemishes.
5. Bathroom
Clean the bathroom from top to bottom. You should scrub all countertops, showers, tubs and toilets. Leave no surface untouched!
Be sure to reach hard to reach places like behind the toilet and under the sink.
6. Kitchen
Be sure to clean every nook and cranny within the kitchen. All countertops and stovetops need to be scrubbed and disinfected.
Remember! Do not forget about your appliances and cabinets! Clean the inside and outside of your sinks, refrigerator, oven, dishwasher, and cabinets.
7. Carpets and Floors
You should leave cleaning carpets and floors until last. There will be a lot of foot traffic within your new home between unpacking and cleaning.
Carpets can be vacuum or steam cleaned to have them look brand new. Hard floors can be mops or steam cleaned as well to have them shine.
